POTA at Chino Hills State Park

POTA at Chino Hills State Park

This was a quick activation at a picnic site in Chino Hills State Park (US-1139). The park, while nice, does not have a ton of appropriate locations for POTA operations. Specifically, much of the roads and stopping points are at the bottom/canyon areas of the “hills” that the park is named for. Once I finally found a spot, I had to wait for a family to vacate the single picnic table to allow me set up.

The park was activated with my Yaesu FT-710 on SSB and a few CW contacts thrown in hunting at the end. The Chelegance MC-750 worked great on a wide tripod to fend off the strong wind gusts that the park is known for.
